Who We Are and How We Build
If you need to rebuild an aging deck, screen in a porch to block summer bugs, open up an older kitchen, or add a second story, having one team handle both design and framing makes the project run smoother. We keep our designs rooted in practical construction, which prevents surprises on your job site and on your final bill.
For more than nine years, Mosaic Design & Build has remodeled homes and built custom outdoor spaces across Northern Virginia. We started the company after seeing too many homeowners get caught between architects and general contractors. When a designer draws something that costs twice as much to frame as expected, or when a builder says a drawing will not pass county code, the owner pays for those mistakes in lost time and change orders. Putting design and building under one roof fixes that problem before work begins.
The name Mosaic comes from how we view construction. A good remodel is not just a stack of materials; it is framing lumber, stone, glass, plumbing, and finish work coming together into a space built to last. We measure site slopes, inspect existing footers, and match rooflines so your new addition looks like part of the original house rather than a late afterthought.
Our Daily Work
What We Build Day to Day
Our daily work spans both indoor renovations and exterior living spaces.
Backyards in Fairfax and Loudoun take a beating from winter freezes and summer humidity. Pressure-treated pine can warp or split in a few years without constant staining. We build composite decks, stone patios, outdoor kitchens, and covered structures designed for local weather. That means setting footers below the frost line to prevent shifting and picking composite decking that stays stable under summer sun.
An open back porch is great in spring, but insects can ruin it by midsummer. We build screened porches, three-season enclosures, and insulated sunrooms that let you use your yard year-round. We tie new roof gables directly into your existing rafters, run wiring for ceiling fans and lighting, and install tight-sealing windows to keep out winter drafts.
When you like your neighborhood but need more space, moving is not always ideal. High interest rates, closing costs, and local school ties make building on a practical alternative. We manage ground-floor bump-outs, second-story additions, garage builds, and primary suite expansions. Our team handles the structural engineering, load calculations, and permit paperwork so your project clears county reviews smoothly.
Inside the house, poor floor plans cause daily frustration. Closed-off kitchens, cramped master baths, and dark main floors make a house feel small. We tear down non-load-bearing walls, drop in steel headers for structural openings, install custom cabinetry, and reconfigure plumbing and lighting around how your family lives.
What Drives Our Work
How We Treat Every Job
Our goal is simple: build clean, solid work that holds up over time. That means turning up on time, explaining options clearly, and respecting your living space. We set up containment barriers, cover finished floors, and clean up the work zone daily so your home stays livable while construction happens.
Where We’re Headed
We aim to be the builder local neighbors recommend because the work held up and the process was straightforward. That takes accurate material estimates, staying up on current building codes, and using trade partners who care about their work.
Why Choose Us
Why Local Homeowners Hire Us
Choosing a contractor is a big decision. Here is how we run our projects differently:
When the person drawing your plans works alongside the crew supervisor, you get buildable designs. If a floor joist layout gets tricky or an exterior wall cut needs extra support, we catch it on paper during planning, not when your house is opened up to the weather.
Soil conditions, yard slopes, HOA rules, and permit reviewers vary between Reston, Leesburg, and Gainesville. Working across Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties for over nine years has taught us what inspectors want to see, how to get HOA approvals passed on the first try, and how to grade around footers so rain runs away from your foundation.
We do not use cookie-cutter plans. Every household cooks differently, uses outdoor space differently, and has different storage needs. We evaluate how natural light hits your back yard, where foot traffic jams happen in your kitchen, and what layout tweaks will make your home work better for you.
You should never have to call a main office and get bounced between three people who do not know your project. You get a single project manager for your entire build. They handle schedules, track orders, oversee daily trades, and answer your phone calls directly.
How We Work
How a Project Moves From Idea to Finished Build
A good renovation relies on clear steps so you know what is coming next.
We start with a site visit at your home. We measure the space, check your electric panel and framing, and talk through what you want to build. Discussing realistic figures early keeps the design inside your actual comfort zone.
Our team turns your ideas into 3D digital renderings. You can see how cabinets, counter materials, porch roofs, and furniture layouts look before any demolition starts. If you want to move a window or change deck stairs, we update the 3D model until it matches what you want.
Before construction starts, we submit engineering plans to the county and pull all building, plumbing, and electrical permits. If you have an HOA, we put together the submittals, material samples, and site plans required by your review board. We also pre-order windows, cabinets, and stone so materials arrive before tear-out starts.
Once site work begins, our crew sets up dust protection and starts demolition and framing. Your project manager handles daily progress, schedules county inspections for footers, framing, and trades, and keeps site clutter under control so your driveway and yard stay usable.
When construction wraps up, we walk the space with you to check every detail. We test windows, inspect trim joints, check paint, and show you how new equipment operates. If anything needs a minor touch-up, we fix it before finishing out the job.

I wanted to have an addition done at my house and I contacted Mosaic Build Design in Sterling, VA. Mr. Yuksel and his team have been a great help with designing and obtaining permit. Their professionalism and expertise are commendable. While the design process was going on I had issues with water heater and he sent his plumber and electrician and got that taken care of right away. Saying Thank you will not be enough to express my gratitude towards them. Mr. Yuksel and his team goes above and beyond their call of duty. I highly recommend them for any home renovation and addition work.Posted on Google![]()

Mosaic (Dennis) was responsive and he followed through with everything he said. He gave good design ideas keeping in mind functionality and price. He was flexible with our needs of project delivery timing. We had guests coming, and we needed the project at a point where they could stop for a week, and they did! We truly appreciated his flexibility there. Overall he is a pleasure to work with. The project was completed within the time frame and cost as expected. We would happily use Mosaic services again!Posted on Google![]()

Mosaics finished a very large scale outdoor deck/patio for my 3.5+m brand new construction. Dennis the owner is very humble and kind and gave me a very fair price and never raised the price throughout the project. Most importantly he returned to fix all the minor details that I wanted addressed. This is my 7th home and worked with many many contractors over the years and he is definitely one of the best!Posted on Google![]()
